Confronting Governmental Integrity Issues
Governments are the reflection of the majority of those who they govern.
George Washington stated: "Knowledge is the source of every public happiness".
2000 years ago, Jesus is said to have claimed "My people suffer for a lack of knowledge".
James Madison said: "Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".
John Adams said: "The preservation of the means of knowledge among the lowest ranks is of more importance to the public than all the property of the rich men in the country".
How many are truly knowledgeable about those they elect or of the subsequent actions of the elected. The safety and well being of any people, depends fully on the integrity of their government. This inlcludes their health, wealth, education, and their livelihoods.
How many are aware of the corporate and special interests and funding and lobbying that unduly influences those who are in positions of power?
Every government that is permitted to exist by any group of governed people anywhere, depends fully on the integrity as well as the extent of knowledge, or lack of it, of the majority of those governed.
Therefore, integrity in government depends on the integrity and of the willingness to be knowledgeably informed of those who are governed. Both are of equal influence. The governments of the world are a mere reflection of the majority of the governed. As such, all must be vigilant, of government, of themselves, of the press, and of the world at large.
